The Sandoval County Community Services Division is committed to improving the quality of life of our citizens by providing access to comprehensive, culturally sensitive health and social services.
The Community Services Division is comprised of six primary programs and oversees all divisions:
Peña Blanca Recreation Center, Gym and Library
The Recreation Center and Gym are open Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. and provide a variety of games, arts and crafts, exercise activities, basketball, volleyball, baseball and more.
The Volunteer Library has both adult and children's section and computer access to the internet.
Community Health Program
The Community Health Program is located in the Sandoval County Health Commons at 1500 Idalia Road, Building B in Bernalillo. The program provides onsite eligibility assistance for Medicaid for pregnant women, children and adults; for the Health Care Assistance Program (Indigent Fund); and for the Affordable Health Care Act through the N.M. Health Insurance Exchange. The program is co-located with the N.M. Dept of Health Public Health Office which provides WIC services, family planning, immunizations and Children's Medical Services. By co-locating these programs residents have access to a wide array of services within one facility. A family dental clinic operated by Presbyterian Medical Services also offers full dental services at the facility
DWI and Prevention, Juvenile Services and Shelter Plus Care
The DWI and Prevention Program provides comprehensive services to address Substance Abuse and many educational and prevention activities. The staff is trained in all aspect of DWI Treatment and provides services to those individuals remanded by the Courts. A full time Certified Preventionist works with the schools and communities to provide educational and prevention activities throughout the County.
Juvenile Justice Services Program
The Juvenile Services Program provides a continuum of cost-effective services and temporary non-secure alternatives to detention for youth who have been arrested or referred to the Juvenile Probation Office or are at risk of such a referral while increasing emphasis on prevention and early intervention.
Permanent Supportive Housing Program
The Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides tenant-based rental assistance to the chronically homeless and mentally ill in our community. The program services include case management, referral assistance and other services to assist clients in becoming successful members of their community.
Senior Services Program
The Senior Services Program provides a wide variety of countywide services to seniors who are 60 years of age or older.
The County operates five senior centers and one meal site. Lunch is provided to seniors at these locations Monday through Friday. In addition, homebound seniors can also receive a lunch each day.
The Centers offer a wide range of activities including exercise, computer, language and craft classes and information and referral services. A centralized transportation program provides transportation to medical appointments, shopping trips and other center sponsored events.
The Frail and Elder program provides Caregiver Respite, Homemaker and Case Management Services.
The Senior Volunteer Program provides Senior Companion, Foster Grandparent, and Retired Senior Volunteer services.
In addition to the programs listed above, the Division oversees the management contract for the Sandoval County Ropes Course located at the National Guard Armory on SR 550 and a Recreation Program in Peña Blanca which includes a Recreation Center and Gym with lots of activities for all members of the Community.
